The short answer: Independent. COP was co-founded in 2022 by David Olsson and Dylan Olsson and has no ownership relationship with any operator we list. We work with the established single-property co-ownership operators worldwide, present their inventory side-by-side in one neutral place, and earn referral commission from those operators when a buyer we introduce transacts. We are not a white-label site for any specific operator. Our editorial — comparison guides, partner profiles, market research — is written to be useful to buyers, not to favour any specific operator.

Ownership structure

COP is owned by its co-founders, David Olsson and Dylan Olsson. No operator owns equity in COP. No operator has board representation. No operator has any veto or input over editorial coverage or which other operators we work with.

This independence is structural, not aspirational. We set it up this way at founding because we believed (and still believe) that the marketplace model only delivers buyer value if it's genuinely operator-neutral. An operator-owned marketplace can only present one operator favourably; an independent marketplace can give buyers the side-by-side comparison they actually need.

Why independence matters for buyers

An operator-owned marketplace will, structurally, favour its parent operator's inventory in placement, comparison framing and editorial coverage. An independent marketplace can publish: this operator is stronger in this destination; this operator's resale process is faster; this operator's annual fees are lower. Buyers can make an informed comparison only if the marketplace they're using isn't trying to steer them toward a single answer.

What independence does NOT mean

Three things to be honest about. First, we do earn referral commission from the operators we work with — see how does COP make money? for the full economic model. Second, we cover operators we work with more frequently in editorial than operators we don't (simply because we know them better). Third, we don't claim to be perfectly impartial on every nuance — every editorial choice has implicit bias. What we do claim: structural independence (no operator ownership, no exclusive partnerships), commercial neutrality (buyers pay the same price whether they come through COP or directly), and editorial honesty (we publish what we think is true, including when it's unfavourable to a partner).

What we do with our editorial independence

Three concrete things. First, we cover operators we don't currently work with in market-research and comparison editorial — buyers benefit from a fuller picture of the category. Second, we publish honest assessments including caveats and limitations of operators we work with. Third, when we don't know something — like an operator's specific resale-time history — we say so rather than inventing reassuring numbers.

How to verify our independence claim

Three things buyers can check. First, our corporate filings (Companies House in the UK) show ownership structure — verifiable independently. Second, our editorial covers multiple operators including partners and non-partners side-by-side — read a few comparison pages and check the balance. Third, our commercial model (referral commission from operators, free for buyers) is the standard real-estate marketplace structure that produces aligned incentives.

What you can ask us at any time

If you're considering a specific operator and want to know our relationship with them, ask. We'll tell you directly: partner or not, what we know about their resale process, what we know about their reputation. There's no hidden register of relationships — the partner network is documented and disclosed on request.
